Alamo New Zealand Rental Terms
Payment
An initial, non-refundable deposit will be secured at the time of booking confirmation. Accepted credit cards are Visa and MasterCard (transaction fee of 1.75% applies).
The balance will be secured directly by the supplier on arrival.
Additional Driver Policy
Additional drivers are permitted at a cost of NZD 3.00 + tax per day, with a maximum charge of NZD 42.00 + tax per rental. Rental conditions apply to all additional drivers.
Age Requirements
Minimum rental age is 21 years for car groups ECMR, CDAR, IDAR, FDAR and IFAR, and 25 years for all other car groups.
There is no maximum rental age.
There is a young drivers surcharge of NZD 24.00 + tax per day, with a maximum charge of NZD 330.00 + tax per rental for driver's aged 21 - 24 years of age.
Condition of Vehicle
Vehicle must be returned, normal wear & tear expected, in the same condition as when rented. If special cleaning is required a separate charge will be made directly to the customer
Cross Border Policy
Cross border travel is not permitted into any island on the ferry. Customers can take the car from island to island but they must give 72 hours advance notice to the rental location prior to crossing the border. The customer must leave the rental car on one side of the island, cross on the ferry, and then collect another rental car. Note: Only one booking is required, but it is mandatory to provide the date and time of ferry crossing so that the relevant branches can be notified to ensure that a vehicle is ready for clients when they arrive off the ferry. If the customer is traveling from Picton to Wellington then the customer will leave the vehicle at the rental station located at the ferry terminal, and pick up the replacement vehicle from the rental station at Wellington ferry terminal. If the customer is traveling from Wellington to Picton then the customer should return the vehicle to the rental station at Wellington ferry terminal and pick up the replacement from the rental station at Picton.
Licence Requirements
Customers must present a full and valid driving licence that has been held for at least one year. An International driving licence/permit is not required.
One Way Rentals
One way rentals are permitted for all cars in New Zealand at a cost of NZD 75.00 + tax for rentals of 1-2 days, and free of charge for rentals over 3 days.
One way rentals from Auckland Airport to Auckland downtown are permitted free of charge. For one way rentals between islands please see the cross border policy information.
Out of Hours Policy
Out of hours pickups and returns are permitted at a cost of NZD 35.00 + tax.
Payment Policy
All major credit cards are accepted (American Express/Diners Club/MasterCard/Visa). National vouchers & Travellers cheques are also accepted. Debit cards (Visa Delta/Switch), National charge cards, Eurocheques and Cash are not accepted. There is no deposit required in New Zealand.
A credit card fee of NZD 1.5% will be charged to all reservations paid via any credit card.
Refuelling Policy
The car will be supplied with a full tank of fuel. Customers must return the car with a full tank or refuelling charges of 12.5 percent will apply.
Roadside Assistance
Roadside assistance is available for all rentals. The roadside assistance emergency telephone number is 0800-625-035. The customer must also contact the police on 111 to ensure a report is made at the scene of the accident and the customer must also contact the rental location. A replacement vehicle will be provided in case of a breakdown or an accident.
Special Equipment
Child infant seats - CSI (0 - 12 months) are available at a cost of NZD 35.00 + tax per rental. Replacement Amount is NZD 200.00.
Child toddler seats - CST (1 - 3 years) are available at a cost of NZD 35.00 + tax per rental. Replacement Amount is NZD 200.00.
Child booster seats - BST (4 - 7 years) are available at a cost of NZD 35.00 + tax per rental. Replacement Amount is NZD 200.00.
GPS Navigation (NVS) is available at a cost of NZD 9.95 + tax per day, with a maximum charge of NZD 99.50 + tax per rental (10 Days). Replacement Amount is NZD 250.00.
Snow chains are available at a cost of NZD 10.00 + tax per day, with a maximum charge of NZD 51.14 + tax per rental. Replacement Amount is NZD 500.00.
Ski Racks are available at a cost of NZD 10.00 + tax per day, with a maximum charge of NZD 51.14 + tax per rental. Replacement Amount is NZD 500.00.

Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
Refund Policy
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
